Reading Response Journal

The purpose of a reading journal is to encourage deep reading and to allow you the opportunity to reflect on what you're reading.

For the summer assignment, you will use Google Docs for your reading journal. Since you have an existing gmail account, you have access to Google Docs by simply logging into your Google Account with your existing user name and password. Don't forget to share your document with me so that I can view it. Please use this e-mail address to invite me (cafeharmon@gmail.com)

Please follow the instructions below:
  1. Include a list of books Pink recommends that you might like to read in the future.
  2. Compose at least ten entries.
  3. For each entry, select a particular part of the text and type it in italics in the note, including the page number. Then, below it include your commentary. Your commentary should be thoughtful, and well-developed. Consider the following strategies for responding and reflecting on the text:
  • Pose questions and then respond to them.
  • Agree or disagree with Pink’s position.
  • Comment on particular rhetorical or stylistic devices and why–for what purpose or effect–you think he uses them.
  • Make connections to other works you’ve read, current issues/events, or personal experiences.
Check out the sample reading response journal and the journal rubric. Be sure to complete journal no later than August 8.
